About the Instructor
Troy Brazile has been working with shelter dogs at the Humane Society of Pulaski County since joining the Board of Directors in 2015. He began volunteering with dogs that displayed problems common to shelter dogs (poor leash walking, barrier aggression, etc) and it soon became a passion. Since then, he has moved on to helping dogs with trust issues, dog-dog aggression issues, fearful dogs, resource guarders, and other dogs who would sadly be labeled as ‘unadoptable’ by many shelters.
In 2016, Troy began working directly with adopters and their pets on specific behavior issues, both in-home and at the shelter on a 100% volunteer basis. In 2018, Troy attended an apprenticeship at the Canine Good Citizen Ready Program at Austin Pets Alive in Austin, TX. Upon returning, he implemented a 100% volunteer-led training program for shelter dogs to help them become more adoptable. He also started teaching small group classes in late 2018 to adopters at the shelter based on the AKC Canine Good Citizen curriculum.
Troy is a member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT).
In 2019, Troy began teaching larger group classes based on the Canine Good Citizen program to adopters and their dogs at Grace Presbyterian Church in Little Rock. Shortly thereafter, STAR Puppy classes were added for adopters of puppies from HSPC and city shelters in Pulaski County. These programs encourage adoption and work to ensure that dogs stay in homes and are not returned. Troy is an AKC Certified Evaluator and can administer both the CGC and STAR Puppy exams
