Ways to Help

Current Volunteer Newsletter 7/3/11

HSPC Volunteer Newsletter 7/3
,
If you are a volunteer with expertise in accounting and financial management (reports, etc) and would be willing to donate several hours a month working with our bookkeeper), please let me know.

Saturday  ..Our Dog Wash at Kroger made $1730…maybe a record? It was very busy! all four tubs were constantly in use, and there were usually about 5 dogs waiting in line. Gene, Vic, Annette, Susan, Billye, Amy and Adrian, Martha, Justin and Hannelore worked really hard and it is much appreciated.
That was 5 dog washes in the last four weeks!
Next one will be July 16 at Kroger. John and I will not be there…so extra help will be needed. Please think about getting there around 8:15 to help Vic, Sandra, Annette and Susan set up. And to help throughout the day to wash dogs. Maybe you will break the record!!

As you might have heard, we took in over 50 dogs that were in unventilated areas in the 100 degree weather without water, shade or food. They are filthy, matted, neglected. They have not yet been surrendered/awarded to HSPC, the hearing is
pending, so they won’t be available for a while. Meantime, we need Pedigree Small Bites (Tractor Supply has some..I bought the last bag from PetSmart West LR..although they should be getting more in), bedding and stuffy toys (used are fine).

Martha trained some volunteers  on entering photos and bios into our system for posting on the website…we put a page in the back of the Volunteer Sign-in book for you to note which dogs and cats you have photographed,. While we like to have lots of pictures of each of them, we want to make sure they all get done…so try  to remember to note it in the book. And she will train more later in the summer for those who want to help, but couldn’t make it last week

We now have a FaceBook page just for our adoptable dogs…Arjay updates it constantly with his great photos…we even had an adoption already..Myrtle.. check it out “Humane Society of Pulaski County Just Dogs”

Puppy Love...if you are interested in joining our program to take puppies to visit folks in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, women’s shelters…contact Leah at leahcapel@sbcglobal.net

Don’t forget our booth at MidTowne Antiques is always looking for new merchandise. If you have something you would like to donate, contact Ann at aberjones@yahoo.com and she will arrange to get it from you. Please don’t bring things to the shelter. And check it out…we have some great stuff there..

I am forwarding this below. Since this newsletter goes out to close to 1000 people… If everyone voted…I’ll bet we would win some money for our shelter…and if everyone told a friend...

“Thank you for supporting your local animal shelter in Care2’s previous America’s Favorite Animal Shelter contests. Many shelters have struggled in this difficult economy, which is why we’re bringing back the contest. That means you can help your favorite animal shelter win $15,000.»

Voting began on May 16th and will run through July 10th. The more votes your shelter gets, the better their chances of winning!

We’re incredibly excited to provide this opportunity to protect homeless and abused pets and want to thank our sponsors ASPCA and Adopt-a-Pet.com for joining us in supporting America’s favorite shelters.

Vote now and help for local shelter win $15,000.»

A painless way to help the shelter…Kroger cards. If you buy a card for $5, which is credited to your first purchase, load the card and use it (over and over0 like a debit card…we get 5% of all your Kroger purchases. This does not affect your Kroger discount card. We made almost $500 last month. And good news! They won’t be suspended May through September like last year. The program stays in effect all year! Just remember to use them.

We appreciate donations of Pedigree Dog Food and Purina Cat Food. Why just those brands? Because if we keep them on a consistent diet, they wont have upset stomachs; and if they do have a problem…well, we’ll know it isn’t the food!!

Next volunteer orientation: July 25, 6PM at the shelter

Adopted: Keisha; Kona; Kipling; Koala; Alba; Rivera; Butch; Angel; Myrtle
